LESSON 5 · Travel English Survival Kit
The Graceful Exit
One of the most powerful bargaining moves is being ready to walk away. A calm "thanks anyway, I'll think about it" signals the price is too high without any rudeness, and sellers may counter before you reach the door.
Three things make the walk-away work:
- Stay relaxed — no sighing or eye-rolling, just an easy smile
- Move slowly — give the seller a beat to respond
- Mean it — if you bluff and stay, your next offer loses all its weight
If no better price comes, walking is still a win: you avoided overpaying.
