Discipline Then Connect

Discipline without follow-up teaches compliance. Discipline that ends in teaching builds understanding.

Once everyone is settled, turn the moment into a short lesson:

  1. Name what happened: "You threw the toy. I took it away because throwing hurts."
  2. Connect cause and effect so the rule makes sense, not just stings.
  3. Invite reflection: "What could you do differently next time?"

This turns discipline from punishment into teaching — and a child who understands the why is far more likely to remember it than one who only felt the consequence.
