LESSON 4 · Tantrum Survival Guide

Connection as Prevention

The single most powerful tantrum prevention tool is not a strategy. It is connection. Children who feel securely connected carry a larger emotional buffer before they tip into dysregulation. The daily tactic is simple: fifteen minutes of focused, child-led play where you follow their lead without directing or correcting. This is not permissiveness. Well-connected children accept limits more easily because they trust the person setting them. When prevention fails, remember: your child is not giving you a hard time — they are having a hard time.
