Bone conduction gets trapped
This is called the **occlusion effect**. Normally, low-frequency bone-conducted vibration can leak back out of an open ear canal. Plug your ears and that escape route is sealed, so the trapped bass builds up — which is why your voice suddenly sounds deep and muffled inside your head.
