Why Everyone Hates It

The cringe you feel hearing your recorded voice has a name: voice confrontation, studied by psychologists since the 1960s. The reaction is nearly universal. People consistently rate their recorded voice as worse than they think they sound — less attractive, less trustworthy, more annoying. The reason is that your inner voice is wrapped up with your self-identity, so when a recording contradicts it, your brain flags it as wrong.
