In-law friction often grows across cultural differences. One family's normal involvement can feel like intrusion to someone raised to be more independent. Neither view is wrong, but the gap has to be named.
Talk openly about what each of you sees as normal family involvement: how often parents drop by, who weighs in on big decisions, what role elders play with the kids. The goal is a new family culture that honors both backgrounds while protecting the couple's autonomy — and that takes compromise from both sides.
