The Magic Number
After decades of research, psychologist John Gottman popularized a pattern linked with stable couples during conflict: about 5 to 1 positive interactions for every negative one. Treat it as a useful relationship signal, not a prophecy.

This does not mean you should never have conflict. Conflict is healthy. The ratio means your relationship needs a thick padding of positivity around every fight. If your default experience is warmth and interest, the occasional argument has more goodwill around it.
