LESSON 4 · Command Any Room

Using the Room

Every room has acoustic properties that either help or hinder your voice. Hard surfaces (concrete, glass, tile) reflect sound, providing natural amplification. Soft surfaces (carpet, curtains, upholstered furniture) absorb sound, requiring more vocal effort.

Stand near a hard wall behind you and the audience will hear you better because the wall reflects your voice forward. Avoid standing in the center of a carpeted room surrounded by curtains — you are in an acoustic dead zone.
