Disagreeing Upward

Disagreeing with the boss is safest when you support the goal while questioning the method. Agree on the target first, then suggest a lower-risk way to reach it.

Avoid making your boss look uninformed in front of others. If you disagree, raise it privately first when you can. If they reject your input, decide whether to accept or escalate, but do not ambush them publicly. Leaders who feel blindsided are more likely to become defensive and stop listening.
