LESSON 7 · Lead Every Conversation
Solution-First Approach
Most people bring problems to their boss and wait for instructions. This positions you as a dependent reporter, not a partner. The solution-first approach flips the dynamic: bring the problem, but lead with your recommended solution.
Instead of "We have a budget issue," try "We have a budget issue, and I think we can solve it by reallocating from the Q3 reserve." You are doing the thinking work in advance, which is what leaders do.
Even if your boss disagrees with your solution, you have demonstrated initiative, analytical thinking, and confidence. Over time, this builds enormous trust.
