LESSON 6 · Your Emotional Operating System
Why Some People Flood Easily
The flooding threshold varies a lot from person to person. People with high baseline stress — poor sleep, work pressure, unresolved conflict — flood at smaller provocations, because their nervous system is already running hot.
Childhood matters too. Growing up in a volatile home trains the nervous system to fire earlier and harder, staying on high alert because threats once felt frequent and unpredictable. Attachment patterns add another layer: some people flood when they sense rejection, others when intimacy feels forced. The trigger differs, but the physical result is the same.
