Sound Like You Mean It

The last timing piece is internal: you have to believe you are ready. Ask with a wobble and your manager hears the same doubt. Confidence is not arrogance; it is calm conviction that your evidence speaks for itself, so you do not have to oversell.

Before the meeting, reread your brag document: wins, stretch moments, and strong feedback from the year. Then make the ask forward-looking: "What would I need to show in the next six months to make this happen?" Now it is a roadmap, not a plea.
