Signal Without Bluffing

You never need to threaten. "I need this to work for both of us" signals you have options without naming them, and "Let me sleep on it" signals a real decision rather than pressure. Signals beat declarations — a declaration can be tested and exposed; a signal cannot.

Let your preparation speak. Quote a specific market-rate figure, reference a competing timeline, name the skill you just certified in, or take visible time to consider the offer. Concrete prep is leverage you can show without ever raising your voice.
