LESSON 1 · Philosophy of Love

The Chemistry of Attraction

The initial spark involves neurochemistry that does not tell similarity from difference. Dopamine and norepinephrine drive the rush of early romance no matter how alike the partners are, firing up the brain's reward circuits and that restless, energized focus on one person.

What differs is durability. Attraction built on novelty burns intense but fades fast. Attraction built on shared values starts quieter but has far greater staying power.
