People-pleasing gradually costs honesty, real connection, and calm. When you perform instead of speak truth, people bond with the performance while stress and resentment build underneath.

These costs compound. Passive aggression is one of the clearest: when needs go unspoken, they leak out sideways as sarcasm, procrastination, or quiet withholding. The resentment you swallow does not disappear — it just finds another exit.
